Why Connected Technology in Cars Make Sense?

Would it be possible for you to read this blog without having access to the internet? Obviously, It’s not. Presently we are living in a manmade ecosystem that cannot be imagined without the internet. Our smartphones, computers and even the smartwatches that we use are connected to the internet.

Similarly, connected technology in the automobile industry is now becoming a new standard. In this blog, I will disclose a few key benefits of having a connected car.

·       Remote Accessibility:

This feature will allow the user to make use of a mobile-based application to operate a few functions of the vehicle. Functions such as air conditioning, vehicle lock/unlock, engine start/stop, headlights, windows and sunroof can be controlled remotely.

Moreover, the user can check the vehicle’s health status, previous service records, fuel status, live location and much more regardless of their location.

·       Geo-Fencing:

Probably Geo-fencing is one of the best safety features that a car with connected technology offers. This feature will help the user to create a geographical border on the map and sends a notification to the user if the vehicle surpasses the set borders.

This feature will be extremely useful to track the vehicle when a chauffeur or someone else is using your car.

·       Safety and Security:

The latest connected cars are loaded with numerous safety and security features such as real-time location tracking, SOS assistance in the event of an emergency, stolen vehicle slowdown, speed alert, roadside assistance in case of a vehicle breakdown and more.

Pressing the SOS button will send a notification with real-time location to the emergency contacts. The SOS assistant will also come on the line and will ask about the nature of the emergency to arrange the appropriate emergency service.

·       Vehicle to Vehicle Communication:

This technology allows connected cars to communicate with each other and share information like traffic situations, road conditions, speed restrictions and much more. This would help in suggesting a better route that has lesser traffic or a good road condition.

·       Entertainment:

As the connected cars do have their own internet connection you don’t have to continuously plead to someone to connect their smartphones for nonstop entertainment, especially on long trips. You can listen to music, audiobooks and watch videos (in a parked vehicle) from pre-installed apps.

You can also give voice commands to manage volume levels, play a specific track, pause the music and more without taking away your sight from the road.

·       Vehicle Health Monitoring:

Nowadays, new generation cars come loaded with a lot of features so obviously there are things that can get neglected. The health monitoring will allow the user to remotely check the essential data to identify any malfunctions. Low level of fluids, a decline in fuel economy, increased engine temperature and other data can easily be monitored through a mobile app.

The service centre assistants with your permission can also have access to your vehicle’s health system remotely and identify the errors.

With the connected car, you can remotely update the inbuilt apps or can run a full system update if available, without visiting the service centre.

Conclusion:

The above are a few relevant features of cars with connected technology offers that bring ease to the owner. However, there are some features that might sound gimmicky or we can say are not very user-friendly.

For example, the voice command feature that could operate the sunroof, navigation or infotainment system doesn’t work as smoothly as the Siri and Google assistance on our smartphones.
