Volkswagen Virtus revealed in India; Look at its Features, Price & Engine

The German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has revealed its mid-size sedan Virtus in India. This sedan will replace the Volkswagen Vento which was one of their best-selling cars in India. The Volkswagen Virtus will compete with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the segment leader Honda City.

The Volkswagen Virtus is built locally at the Chakan plant in India and will be exported to more than 25 countries. The Virtus will be launching in May and its booking has already started at the dealerships. The car will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines with no diesel option available.

Volkswagen Virtus Design

The sedan looks elegant from all angles. The sharp crossectional lines on the hood make it look premium and sporty at the same time. The rectangular-shaped headlights, dual-tone bumpers and blacked-out ORVMs succeed in maintaining the sporty spirit of the Virtus. The top GT variant will have the GT badging on the front & rear, and will also have a few cosmetic changes like a blacked-out roof, red brake callipers and much more. The 16-inch alloy wheels are made available on the top variant, however, it is expected that the lower variants will have a 15-inch setup.

From inside the Virtus has a black and beige coloured dashboard layout with a few piano-finished elements. The flat-bottom steering wheel, digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch infotainment system are laid out in the simplest form. The GT variant will have red stitching on the seats. The sedan will be available in six colours, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Curcuma Yellow, Reflex Silver and Rising Blue Metallic.

It wouldn’t be wrong if I say that the Virtus is currently the best looking car in its segment, especially from the outside.

Volkswagen Virtus Features

The Volkswagen Vento became outdated as it lacked numerous features that most of its rivals offered but the Virtus will not lack in this department for sure. The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system offers connected car technology along with Andriod Auto & Apple Carplay compatibility. The sedan also has premium features like an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, cooled glovebox and an electric sunroof.

Volkswagen Virtus Engine & Gearbox

The Virtus comes with two engine options. The 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder TSI engine generates a power of 155hp and a torque of 175Nm. The other 1.5-litre  turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine generates a power of 150hp and a torque of 250Nm.

The 1.0-litre engine comes with a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic torque converter gearbox. While the 1.5-litre engine has an option of a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

Volkswagen Virtus Safety Features

Volkswagen has loaded the Virtus with plenty of safety features like six airbags, ABS, ESP as standard across all variants. The electronic differential system, tire pressure monitoring system, traction control and rear parking camera with parking sensors are also provided.

The company claims that they have provided more than forty safety features on the top variant of the Virtus.

Volkswagen Virtus Price India
The exact price has yet not been revealed by the company but most probably the base variant will start from approximately 10.5 Lakhs and can cost around 18 lakhs for the top GT variant ex-showroom.

Other Information

The Virtus has the biggest boot size of 521-litres in its segment.

The expected fuel economy will be approximately 18 km/pl as per ARAI.
